In case you missed it last weekend, Hollie Scott of Bellingham, WA and Dane Elkins of Los Angeles, CA took the 2017 National Championships for High School Racquetball by storm.
Hollie delivered as the #1 seed in the Girl’s draw, holding her opponents to a scant total of 9 points over four games in the Round of 16s and Quarters. She scooted by #5 seed Elyse Duffie from Missouri in the Semis 15-11, 15-6 before defeating #3 seed Briana Jacquet from Arizona in the Finals 15-6, 15-2.
Dane likewise delivered as the #1 seed in the Boy’s draw, smashing through the Round of 16s and surviving a tiebreak in the Quarters. He convincingly beat #4 seed Mitchell Turner from Oregon in the Semis 15-5, 15-9 before destroying #3 seed Cayden Akins from Texas in the Finals 15-2, 15-2.
Dane picked up an additional pair of gold medals: one in the Boy’s Doubles draw with partner Jared Anwar and another in the Mixed Doubles draw with partner Atossa Rejaei. Dane is only the second player ever to win three Gold #1 divisions in the same year at the High School Nationals.
Congrats to Hollie and Dane from Coach Cliff and everyone at Cliffswain.com!
